Thanksgiving with Friends
For the past several years the HUMC has been offering a full Thanksgiving meal on Thanksgiving Day. This has been known as “Thanksgiving with Friends.” In order for this to continue we are going to need some special help from the members an d friends of the church.
Since its inception Peggy Cox has headed this venture, but this year she is going to need some assistance since she and the pastor will be out of town attending a relative’s memorial service in California. They will not be back in the area until Tuesday, November 25th, which leaves only one day, Wednesday, for all of the varied preparations needed for this meal to succeed. If we cannot get the necessary help and leadership then this year’s Thanksgiving with Friends will have to be canceled. This has been a ministry to our community that has made the Thanksgiving meal available to families and friends, and one that has been well received. It would be sad to see this end, but more and broader help is needed.
If you would like to be involved in this ministry, please sign up on the ‘sign-up sheet’ located in the memorial walkway. We are asking those who would like to take advantage of the meal to sign up and those wishing to take advantage of the take-outs to do the same.
The following are a few areas in which we could use your help in our ministry to our church family and our greater community.
v In our attempts to try and examine our mission and ministry we would appreciate it if those of you who have been ‘teachers/leaders’ in our new Sunday school model would take a moment and jot down you evaluation of what you think works our could be done better, we would appreciate the input. Please pass that on to the pastor or leave it in the church office.
v We would like to find a keyboard that could be used by both the Sunday school and the youth group, to be placed in the new youth room. If you have one that you would like to donate to the church it would be put to good use for our children and youth
v There is a sign-up sheet in the Memorial Walkway to help us with this year’s ‘Road to Bethlehem.’ Please see if its possible to give us an hour or two on that day to help us set up and break down the various sets.
Thought for the Week
Friendship is a spiritual gift from God. Close friendships are relationships within which we can learn of God’s kind of loyalty. Without loyalty in friendship there is no love. And I believe that disciples of Jesus discover in him a loyalty that is nothing short of miraculous. In Jesus, God chose to set aside divinity in order to embrace our human condition. Jesus was loyal to God’s love for us all the way to the cross. Love and loyalty in friendship exist together side by side.

Prayer for the Week
Lord of my darkest place:
let in your light.
Lord of my greatest fear:
let in your peace.
Lord of my most bitter shame:
let in you grace.
Lord of my oldest grudge:
let in your forgiveness.
Lord of my deepest anger;
let it out.
Lord of my loneliest moment:
let in your presence.
Lord of my truest self – my all:
let in your wholeness.
